A Frog With a Nose Like Pinocchio
Who would have thought a frog would have a nose that could grow? Well some scientist have found just that. A frog with a nose similar to the problem Pinocchio had, but I don’t think it grows because it tells a lie.
This frog has been found in a desolate area of the Indonesian rainforest which is located in Southeastern Asia.
The frog travels up into the trees and lays it’s eggs on the bottom sides of leaves.
They believe the purpose of the nose inflating is to attract the females.

Horse Gives Birth to Twins
It is a rare sight indeed to see a horse give birth to twins, but it did happen in San Diego.
Sunny and Angel were born on March 28th, 2010. Their chances of livinig were very slim.
Dr. Rodrigo Vanzquez explained about how the uterus in a horse cannot hold two infants. If there are two in the womb, one usually dies early during pregnancy. It is uncommon that both horses live till they are birthed. If they do, there are always complications.
“Their lungs are not developed, or they get septic, infections and then end up dying,” Dr. Vazquez said.
Without help, Angel would not have been expected to survive. He put her on antibotics.
Both Sunny and Angel are watched over 24 hours a day to be sure the are getting enough to eat. At this time, thngs are looking good.
The Dr felt better once the twins were two weeks of age.
A horse giving birth to twins, and them surviving, is a once in a life time chance.
The mother horse did have a rather large stomach while she was pregnant, but the owner had no idea she was carrying twins.
The mother, Lena, is a 9 year old quarter horse.
At this time, both twins are doing fairly good but are still not assured to be okay.

A Shark in the Ohio River?
Who would have thought we could possibly have sharks in the Ohio river?
In Olmsted IL, the waters that had been flooding the banks have receded leaving the remains of a shark behind.
The shark was found dead on a boat ramp in Olmsted, IL.
A conservation officer has stated that it is a shark.
The shark was found by a commercial fisherman. The shark was dead on the ramp.
A.J.Hendershott, a Missouri Conservation official stated it is most likely a young bull shark.
Bull sharks are able to live in fresh water and it’s not the first time that one has been known to travel up the Mississippi River from the gulf area. They have traveled as far and St Lous mostly during the flooding times of year.
It is a rare thing to have found one this far up in the Ohio River.

Dog Found 600 Miles from Home
Thanks to a micro chip in the Holt’s dog, and 85 pound German Shepherd named Deacon, their dog was returned.
He had been missing from their Virgina home for 6 months.
At first the family, owning a lot of land figured Deacon was out wandering around the area and would return home soon.
After a few days, they called the dog warden and let them know.
Deacon was given to Keith Holt by his wife Pamela. He was a very cherished member of the Holt family.
They searched for Deacon for a few weeks, but then gave up hope of his return. At that time they figured he had either died somehow or was stolen.
Then a call from a man in Florida brought renewed hope. Pamela thought it was a prank, but when the man identified Deacon as Bruno, Deacons name in his micro chip, she knew it was him.
They received an email from the man, an animal control officier named Gary Thomas. It was Deacon.
The next day they were on a road trip to Florida to get Deacon.
This is a good reason for getting your pet micro chipped.

Fish Are Afraid Of Their Reflections
Fish do not enjoy looking at themselves in a mirror. In fact it scares them according to a recent study.
When they see themselves, their brain reacts with more activity in areas that are related to fear than when a fish was shown another fish.
The fish did always react the same way showing aggressive behavior towards the other fish. It didn’t matter if it was only a mirror image or a real fish, they would respond the same.
According to Julie Desjardins, she is a research and post doctoral biologist at Stanford, they don’t seem to understand. They are aroused by the sight of the other fish. She feels it is something that it is beyond their area of experience and that it causes a sort of worked up reaction.

New Panda Center
A new Panda Centercost $8.8 million or 60 million yuan will be constructed at Sichuan province’s Du Jiang Yan Ciy, according to Zhang Zhihe, the head of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, reported by the official Xinhua News Agency. This new center will be used to train the giant pandas to survive in the wild.
The facility is expected to house three to five giant pandas when it is completed within five years. The center will take the area of 21.5 acres (8.7 hectares) from an experimental zone, along with 2,800 acres (1,128 hectares) of woodlands, where three to five pandas will be housed when it is completed within five years.
Zookeepers hope by training the pandas will help them to learn the life in wild, such as living in the caves in stead of cages, get the food etc. This program will help to reduce dependency of pandas on human. However, the pandas will still receive frequent checkups and participate in artificial breeding.
Bear Wanders Into Oxnard, California Neighborhood
There was a lot of excitement outside a cemetery in Oxnard where a bear had wandered into the area and climbed a tree.
It is the first time that many have seen a wild bear in Oxnard.
Bears do sometime loose their way and wander into the Ventura County mountain regions, but not into town like this one did.
The bear was sedated by The Fish and Game officials then very carefully brought down out of the tree by firemen. They had to cut branches as they went to allow them to get the bear down safely.
After getting the sleeping bear down, it was taken to the Los Padres National Forest and released after it woke up.
They figured the bear to be about 2 years old. It may have wandered into the town from the Santa Clara River which is only about a 1/2 mile from the cemetery where it climbed the tree.
The whole operation of removing the bear went very well.

Baby Fox Stuck in Discarded Wheel
A small baby fox cub was rather lucky when a driver found him wedged inside the tire wheel at a gas depot.
The little cub had been yelping and that is what got the drivers attention. It had wedged it’s head into a little hole in the tire.
The Scottish SPCA were called in and Jennifer Hamilton took the wheel and baby back to the Middlebank rescue center to get help in releasing the cub.
Once the baby fox had ridden in the back of the her van where it was dark the baby relaxed. This was good as it enabled the rescuers to get him out without too many problems.
The cub is doing fine. He was of cource a little shook up after the whole ordeal. He is rather lucky the driver found him. He would have died if hadn’t been discovered.
It appears that his mother and siblings may have left him due to his being stuck in the wheel. There has been a family sighted in the area where he was found.
He is not yet ready to be released, but is with a couple of other cubs that are being also prepared to go out into the wild when ready.

Beaver Dam Can Be Seen From Outer Space
Beavers have really been busy with their dam. The dam which is located in Canada is, 2,790 feet long! That is over a half mile in length!
The dam is also two times the size of the Hoover Dam which is found in the United States and is the biggest dam ever made by man. Hoover Dam is only 1,244 feet long.
The beavers dam can be found on the south outer edge of the Wood Buffalo National Park located in Northern Alberta. Experts saw it when they were checking out the sizes and length of dams made by beavers located in North America.
Beavers build dams to create living quarters with water around them. The living area is located in the middle to allow them to swim to and from their homes. This keeps them safe from many animals that hunt them.
The dam in Northern Alberta is astonishingly large. Most dams are usually approximately 1500 feet in length.
It is possible that there is more then one family of beavers living in this huge dam. It had to take many months to build this massive dam out of thousands of trees.
