Birth of Panda Captured on Camera

Author: In Austria, the Giant panda was giving birth. The zoo had set up cameras ahead of time to enable them to view the birth and be certain that the mother accepted the baby. There have been many times that a cub has not lived due to the mother not bonding with her baby.
The pictures of the baby being born show Yang Yang welcoming her baby and gently picking it up in her mouth as pandas do.
The cub weighs less then 2 ounces and is about 6 inches long.
Yang Yang and her cub are bonding just fine. The zoo keepers feel good about the acceptance and will close off the exhibit to allow Yang Yang some more special time with her baby before re-opening to the public.
“A lot of young pandas die in their first year so we are keeping a very close eye on this,” said a zoo spokesman.
