A Traffic Jam in the Jungle
What do the giraffe and the ostrich have in common?
I wouldn’t have really thought there would be any common ground between a Giraffe and an ostrich. An ostrich is a bird and a giraffe is a mammal. What could they have in common? Giraffes have hair and are covered with spots of brown situated on a yellow tinge of color. Ostriches are birds that cannot fly and have feathers. Apparently their feathers are very much in demand as are their eggs. There is another difference. Ostriches lay eggs while giraffes have live babies. The babies begin to walk shortly after birth. The only common factor for both the giraffe and the ostrich is their necks. They both have long necks The giraffe has what seems an extremely long neck, but what you may not know is it consist of the same amount of vertebrates as our human necks do. It does have the longest neck in the world, but the ostrich also has a rather long neck.
Ostrich, the worlds largest bird.
Along with being the largest bird in the world, it is also a non flying bird. The ostrich is unable to fly but they can make quick get a ways due to their speed when running. They are able to run over 31 miles an hour if running a distance. If only sprinting a short distance, they have been clocked at 43 miles an hour. The ostrich also has very strong legs that can be used as weapons to defend themselves. They can actually kill a human or even a lion. Ostriches lay eggs but do not necessarily hatch their own eggs. The eggs are all put into one nest in the group, the dominant hens nest is used. She then along with her mate will hatch out off the groups eggs. Her and her mate take turns sitting on the eggs to keep them warm.
A traffic jam
Here on a street, not sure where it is, an ostrich is moving along with her brood of baby hatch-lings. They are all doing very well at keeping up but they are taking up the whole road. When they approach a giraffe, I can only imagine he is wondering which way to go. I wonder who gave in and let the other pass. The giraffe or the ostrich.

A profit is made from their feathers and eggs. The ostriches are multiplying and he has gone from 3 to over 180.

Parrot Miraculously Returns Home
Scarlet returns
Scarlet, a parrot that had been missing for almost two days, has returned home. Some how the parrot located its 9 year old owner, Shannon at her school during her lunch break. Shannon was outside during her break on the playground when suddenly Scarlet flew up and landed on her shoulder.Shannon was close to crying she was so happy to see Scarlet again.
Two days ago
It was almost two days prior, on Saturday, that Scarlet had managed to get out of her cage at the Underhill’s home in Laleston. The Underhill’s home is a quarter of a mile away from the Llangewydd Junior School where Shannon attends. We know homing pigeons can find their way back home, do all birds have this ability? Or was it just a coincidence that Scarlet located Shannon outside in her school yard and recognize her. Are birds a bit like dogs that no matter how far from home they go, they seem to always find their way back?
Quite a surprise
Scarlet is also able to talk. When she landed on Shannon, a teacher seeing the commotion came over to check things out. Scarlet asked her,”do you want a kiss?” I can only imagine the teachers surprised look upon her face. Shannon’s father was notified by the school that their 4 year old bird had returned. When Scarlet first saw Mark, Shannon’s father, she was happy to see him and said,”hello daddy.” With Scarlet having been gone for over 24 hours, the family did not really think she would be back. It was quite a surprise that she did return, and that she found Shannon at the school yard. The school administrative officer, Charlotte Jury said, “I like to think she wanted to go home, and she found Shannon – the person who could take her there.”
