It was about a mile and a half beneath the sea waters that the squid that has a human appearance yet not, was filmed by a ROV a remotely operated vehicle with a camera attached. The squid appears right in front of the camera, almost as though it is posing with it’s large fins flopping about. The fins were referred to as resembling elephant ears. The squid also has long arms with elbow like extremities.
This type of squid called, Magnapinna, or more commonly “big fin,” are still today a mystery. They are a rarely seen squid. The Magnapinna squid has been filmed by these ROV’s maybe a dozen times as they were filming the bottoms of the Gulf and the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans.
This video taken by a ROV at a Shell drilling site is the first time one has been filmed at a oil drilling location. ROV’s are proving to be very worthwhile for taking footage of the aquatic life on the floors of our oceans and seas.
