A Recently Born Chimp at Kansas Zoo

Author: Suzie is a 56 year old chimpanzee. She totally surprised the zoo keepers when she gave birth on Aug 18th to a baby girl.
The mommy and her new baby girl are doing fine.
The zoo personnel did not think that a chimp the age of Suzie was able to become pregnant. She was on longer being kept on birth control because she had some medical problems.
Well, Suzie proved them all wrong.
There is no record of any other chimp in the older age group that has given birth.
Suzie is also the third oldest chimp on record at this time that is recognized by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
Typically a chimp living in zoos has a life span of approximately 60 years.
