White Snake
Few people have ever had the chance to see the white snake found only in Iwakuni,Japan. The snake is so uncommon that is has been made an official natural treasure of Japan. There have been stories written about the snake in Japanese folk lore and in make believe tales even though it has so rarely been seen for the past hundreds of years.
It is actually a bluish green snake but contains no pigmentation which makes it albino or colorless. The deep red eyes stand out against the white of the snakes skin. They are approximately 180 centimenters long and about 5 centimeters across.
These snakes are not considered to be a threat to people. They will bite if bothered, but they are not poisonous. They mainly eat small animals such as rats and mice. Also eggs, and birds are a part of their diet. They do most of their hunting in the early hours of the days and nights. Because of thier reactions to any type of motion, they are considered to be very easily spooked and are most likely going to attack anything that comes too close to their home to protect themselves.
As the country becomes more urban, the snakes territories are being threatened resulting in a reduction of the snakes. This has been going on at an alarming rate. With them being so rare to be found to start with, Japan has placed them on the endangered list.
This snake is so rarely seen that there isn’t much information available on it. Numerous stories about the snake have been written and it is referred to as a good luck charm or as being sent from the gods.
